Andrew Richards joined Alex Kaar in 2005 as a partner and is the national head of legal, risk & compliance.

Andrew has responsibility for managing search assignments across legal, company secretarial, risk and compliance. This encompasses searches up to general counsel and company secretary level for leading ASX listed and global corporations, as well as partners and senior associates for major law firms. Andrew has worked extensively across all major Australian cities as well as significant Asian locations.

As a qualified lawyer Andrew worked for over eight years in private practice, initially at Allens Arthur Robinson and then at Richards Butler Lawyers in London. Upon returning to Melbourne Andrew joined Mallesons Stephen Jacques. Andrew’s legal career moved in-house for a further three years when he took up a position as a corporate lawyer at Ferrier Hodgson, the liquidators of the Farrow/Pyramid Group.

Commencing his recruitment career in 1997, Andrew joined a multinational executive recruitment consultancy, focusing on the “start up” phase of legal executive recruitment. Andrew played a key role in developing the consultancy’s legal recruitment practice and was responsible for significant and high profile appointments in both corporate and private practice in Melbourne.

More recently, Andrew spent five and a half years at a major ASX listed search firm in Melbourne, as a senior principal, focusing on general counsel and senior counsel appointments in the following sectors: financial services, utilities, government, and telecommunications. Andrew also led partner and senior associate searches for major national law firms

Andrew also maintains an active involvement in his own professional development through postgraduate study, having completed an executive MBA from AGSM, and his ongoing membership to the Australian Corporate Lawyers' Association.

Andrew also holds combined law/arts degrees from Monash University
